Me first AND me only mentality
Me first AND me only mentality
What on earth is wrong with people? The 93 year old man who froze to death in Michigan, in his home, with the electric bill money attached to the bill might give us some clues.
Marvin Schur, the freezing victim, left all of his money (hundreds of thousnds) to a local hospital. But before he unwillingly died at the hands of Old Man Winter and an assanine electric company - he had the money to pay the bills but the inability to pay them!
City records show that Mr. Schur made several attempts to pay his electricity bill by going to the bank to pay them. Each time he went to a different bank, they rejected the payment because it wasn't an authorized payment center. Each time that happened, the late fees got higher and higher until the electricity company limited his consumption which subsequently led to his death.
Now, I ask you - what on earth is wrong with people? If you see a 93 year old man confused about where to take the payment, you put him in your car and you take him to make the payment. Or, you go to the post office, buy a stamp and envelope for him, help him to address the envelope, help him to fill out the check, and you mail it for him! I don't even need to go into how disturbed I am about his family not helping him - but I'm disappointed in the public in general. What type of kids have we been raising in America for the past 50 years that would make them think that it would be okay to repeatedly turn this 93 year old man away?! At the very least, someone could have made a call to social services to for a health and welfare check!
Does our "me first and me only" mentality really have to go this far?
